Hello from Bulgaria! We hope your summer is winding down nicely. Chris and I are looking forward to getting to know some new international colleagues that arrived this week. However, their arrival just means that its a few days closer to the beginning of the year. But its also a perfect time to reminisce about our summer travels. When we last left off it was the middle of July and we were leaving Budapest for Milan.

We arrived in Milan late at night and checked into our place. The next day we went cooking with a local where we learned how to make homemade pasta and two different style of sauces. Chris and I had a blast learning new techniques from someone else. It was also a really tasty meal. After a wonderful lunch we went out and explored the city to try and get our bearings. We mostly rested because it was a hot Italian day and we would have plenty of time to explore later.

The second day in Milan started in a rush because we had to move places to stay and meet Chris's mom and aunt at the airport. We were happy to see them and ready to start our Italian adventure. After having the new travelers settle in to our place we explored Milan to mark out the places we wanted to see the next few days. Also we wanted to help our family adjust to the new time zone.

The next day we went about exploring a local park. The park is a part of Castello Sforzesco, a fortress designed by Leonardo di Vinci that at one time protected the city. Today it houses multiple museums celebrating the history and artwork the comes from the Lombardy region. The building itself was closed but the grounds we fun to walk through. After the fortress, we made our way to the Milan Cathedral. It is an impressive building both inside and out. There was plenty of figures carved into the white marble facade. The interior had numerous paintings, gilded carvings and stain glass. It was a lot to take in.

Our crew took a quick break for lunch and after wandered through the museum connected to the cathedral. In the museum they explained more about the construction of the building and had old statues and paintings on display. These pieces of art might need special preservation or taken out purposefully to modernize the cathedral. It was a nice way to end our time in the city.
